Are young people getting a bad rap?
It seems it’s something more serious …
With a resounding generalized review of Gen Z being “Difficult to work with”
Companies are now taking assertive action.
6 in 10 bosses are rapidly sacking Gen Z grads,
within months of hire
with the main complaints, (According to Fortune Magazine)
being, lack of motivation, disorganization and
lack of professionalism and poor communication skills.
It’s no surprise to you, I’m sure,
That I sat upright when I read those last two!
That’s what I speak to here:
First, a little grace:
Young grads are products of the environment
in which they were raised,
as we all are.
The difference is that this young generation has
no concept of life without internet,
Or social media on personal devices.
Whereas
previous generations (the bosses we speak of, primarily)
Were raised in rooms with adult conversations,
Listening and watching interaction, even disagreements
We were learning social queues and reading body language.
In comparison, Gen Z was raised with the opportunity for distraction,
With technology.
I get it, an iPad seems a great pacifier.
Bottomline,
Years attached to devices has created a generation
That has significant difficulty with eye contact.
And that’s just the tip of a very large iceberg.
That said, there is still hope for talented Gen Z’s
to show up well,
The same presentation skills I’ve been teaching since 2005
Can transform the personal presence of a Gen Z’er
From seemingly disengaged to confident and charismatic.
A course is being created right now to help Gen Z
Get, Keep and Excel in their dream jobs. Launching in March,
TODAY, you can help a new grad by sharing this blog on how to be charismatic in conversations: Appear 100% Comfortable and Confident in any Conversation
(Other entries on this blog cover topics of body language and various social skills)
