The Place Your Nervous System Can Finally Exhale

What’s your sanctuary?  Sanctuary is all around us.  When you are following your path, your passion your calling… sanctuary isn’t just a when I have time.. kind of thing.  It’s a necessity.

Self care with a big purpose … sanctuary gives you time to reset your nervous system, without that you may feel lost in schedules and obligations and maybe when times get stressful you’re having that extra glass of wine to calm yourself (experience speaking).  Can you always fine sanctuary then?  Yup. You may need to get creative:

When I found myself in the heart of New York City, this country girl had to find a way to create sanctuary amidst the constant buzzing of city noise. I didn’t know consciously at the time what I was doing, I just knew I longed to be surrounded by a different vibe when I finished my day.  I found it on my “balcony.” Well, a fire escape, actually,  off of my third story walk up bedroom window, with a potted plant as the only decoration (A rebellious move for me at that time, since  I figured even that was against the fire department rules). I had the blessing of a single tree to look upon and occasionally a bird or two.  Sure, they were nearly always pigeons, which my neighbors called, “flying rats” but I considered them friends. They were wild creatures and I appreciated their company.

Why am I sharing this?  Because today I was reminded that we all need sanctuary. Sanctuary refers to a place where we exhale, and lower our shoulders.  It’s a place that seems familiar and brings us back to the present.  Back to gratitude, no matter what has happened in the day or day before.

It is around us no matter where we are, even if that current environment seems totally out of vibe with our essence, who we feel we are.  We can find it.  In fact, that’s when we need it most.

Sanctuary spots allow us to tap into the inner voice, intuition or Holy Spirit, and remind us of who we are, and Whose we are.

I have several sanctuary spots at home.   This morning I chose a lounge chair on the deck where I could hear my horses and enjoy the early sun dappling through the oak tree where the birds dipped down to the feeder.

If you need to create one, where do you feel the most comfort in your home?  That chair, or sofa, your patio?  A view of your garden? Maybe put a great candle or plant there. Add a photo you love, and a yummy blanket.  How about music?  Add what makes your soul happy. Keep it simple. Exhale.

You’ve got a lot to do, and that purpose on your heart is still calling you, so it’s crucial to keep your mind and body healthy and ready to jump into action when opportunities come your way.  If you are living your true essence that’s what’s going to happen… get ready for it.
