The Red Queen screamed, “Faster!  Faster!”
“It takes all the running you can do to stay in the same place.
If you want to get somewhere else, you must run twice as fast as that!”

That sounds a bit like most of our days, doesn’t it?

I know certain days, weeks even,
Feel like I am moving as fast as I can,
Even to the point that I will start to “misplace” things
Like, keys or my phone…
Usually because I am already mentally on to the next “thing” and I leave them behind!

That’s my wake up call.
We can slip into the addiction of do-ing
And not be-ing.

Ironically, to combat this,
I set my alarm earlier.
Literally an earlier wake up call!

Here’s why it works:
The few minutes
(It might only be 15 minutes earlier than your usual alarm)
Give quiet time.

Time to focus on,
For me,
Connection to God.

I get centered and “tuned in”
So that I can “hear” from my creator throughout the day.

For you,  it maybe
A time to stretch and focus.

This extra gift of a few minutes
Sets a mental pace.
A feeling of being present that will become
The foundational state for your day

No matter what happens.

Regulating the speed of our minds takes practice,
Of course.
Eventually,  we can return to the state of calm and presence (recalling our quiet minutes in the morning)
And the chaos of the day will seem much more manageable.

It may seem a small thing, but it can make all the difference.

I recommend:
A great book to set your morning routine is “Win the Day” by Mark Batterson.

(The quote at the beginning of course is thanks to Lewis Carroll,  Through the Looking Glass)

Controlling the chaos of your day is great self-leadership! If you have a special morning routine, I’d love to know.  With your permission, I’ll share it!

PS. Know anyone starting a podcast with a video component?  I have a special opportunity to create “Comfort on Camera.  Just respond here with a note to learn how that works.  It’s  my “back to school” special beta training for the month of August.  I’ll be announcing the full program very soon.  Early responders will be double the training time! ( responding here is no obligation.. just getting the deets;)
